Academic Work · 2016–2024
School Design Projects
Editorial layout, branding and logo exploration, and presentation studies produced across two design programs — consolidated here as one body of academic work rather than scattered individual pieces.
Overview
Before any client or employer work, there were two programs' worth of exercises — typography, layout, branding, and presentation — that built the foundation everything since has stood on.
This page brings together the coursework previously shown as several separate portfolio entries — editorial layouts, logo studies, out-of-home advertising, and presentation/compositing exercises — into one place. It's academic work, not client work: assignments, briefs, and self-directed studies produced during a DEP in Graphic Design and an AEC in Graphic & Web Design. Grouped together, it reads less like a list of unrelated pieces and more like what it actually was — two years of structured, hands-on training in the fundamentals.

Editorial, print & layout
Typography and grid exercises applied to real formats — a newsletter, an event ticket, out-of-home advertising, and a promotional flyer.

Branding & logo exploration
Identity studies — wordmarks, monograms, and logo concepts across different fictional briefs, plus a packaging exercise for a confectionery brand.

Presentation, mockups & composite work
Presentation and compositing exercises — placing finished work into realistic scenes, and standalone photo-manipulation studies practicing the same layering and lighting skills.

What these programs taught me
- Typography and grid discipline before anything else — most of what looks like "style" later is really structure done right first.
- Logo and identity work benefits from generating many directions before narrowing — quantity of exploration, then ruthless selection.
- Presentation matters as much as the design itself: a strong concept in a weak mockup reads as a weak concept.
- Two different programs, two different emphases — CBG's craft-first foundation and John Abbott's digital/web layer — gave me a more complete toolkit than either alone would have.
