Fire Prevention & Evacuation

This project focuses on the design of fire prevention and evacuation documentation for public, educational, and industrial environments. The objective was to translate regulatory requirements and building constraints into clear, readable visual systems that support safe movement and rapid decision-making during emergencies.

The challenge

Fire prevention and evacuation design must comply with strict building codes while remaining immediately understandable to occupants with varying levels of familiarity with the space. The challenge was to balance regulatory accuracy, spatial complexity, and visual clarity, ensuring that information could be interpreted quickly under stress without visual overload or ambiguity.

The Solution

I approached each plan as a functional communication system rather than a technical drawing alone. Floor plans were structured to prioritize legibility, hierarchy, and clear wayfinding. Visual elements such as routes, exits, symbols, and legends were standardized to reduce cognitive load and support intuitive navigation during emergency situations.

A System Built to Endure

The evacuation plans were designed as standardized, repeatable systems that could be adapted across different buildings and occupancy types. Consistent layout logic, symbol usage, and typographic hierarchy ensured reliability, ease of maintenance, and long-term usability across multiple locations.

  • Clear visual hierarchy for rapid information scanning

  • Standardized symbols and color coding for safety compliance

  • Modular layouts adaptable to different building configurations

  • Production-ready documentation for print and on-site display

Execution & Outcome

The final plans were delivered in production-ready formats suitable for on-site installation and regulatory review. The documentation supported clear evacuation procedures and met applicable safety standards while remaining visually accessible to a wide range of users. The project demonstrates my ability to combine technical constraints with clear graphic communication in high-responsibility environments.
